According to The Times, the state government said it would introduce a new bill to blame the builders who installed dangerous building cladding. On Tuesday, Planning Director Richard Wynne announced the new bill. If the state government funds the repair of the dangerous envelope, then the government can blame the builders on behalf of the owners’ committee. In July this year, the Andrews government announced a grant of 600 million yuan to dismantle the dangerous envelope in more than 500 buildings with high fire risks.
The government has also set up a new agency, the Cladding Safety Victoria, to oversee the repair of the cladding. Wynne said: ‘Some of the buildings are completely covered with cladding, and some buildings use only some of the cladding, depending on the condition of each building, there are different solutions. ”
Wynne pointed out that the state government has audited more than 2,500 buildings, and one-fifth of them are considered “at risk.” An economic analysis released in August this year shows that the cost of repairing a nationwide crisis may reach billions of yuan. But Wynne believes that the $600 million grant is more appropriate. He also called on the federal government to tighten import restrictions on construction products.
