After discovering errors in the translation of key health information, the Victorian government announced that it would spend 14.3 million yuan to better support multicultural communities through the new crown crisis.
The new grants announced this Thursday afternoon include 6.9 million for organizations that provide specific cultural assistance on-site, 2 million for translation and interpretation services, and 5.5 million to expand how these translations are delivered.
A’CALD Communities Taskforce’ from the Victorian Multicultural Commission and representatives of different government departments will also be established, and contact stalkers will receive additional cultural training. The Minister of Multiculturalism, Ros Spence, said in a statement: “In order to control the epidemic, we must work together. This includes caring for Victorians who come to multicultural and religious beliefs. They face unique challenges such as language barriers or access to services. .”
