With trade tensions between China and the United States continuing unabated, federal Treasury secretary Josh Frydenberg will renew his call for reform of the world trade organization.
Josh Frydenberg said he would like the WTO to have a better dispute settlement mechanism. He also wants the wto to be given the power to handle and arbitrate e-commerce in emerging economies. Asia’s emerging economies should also be given greater attention and voice in international institutions such as the international monetary fund, the finance minister said in a speech to the Australian research centre.
The finance minister called for Australia to play a more active and constructive role in international affairs and praised the international monetary fund, the global economic body, for its role in coordinating the global economy. His remarks are a departure from prime minister Morrison’s controversial criticism of negative globalism in September.
