Schiavello Group has completed the $1 billion mixed-use M-City Monash project in Clayton’s former warehousing district.

It is one of the largest masterplanned community, single stage developments undertaken in Victoria and includes three residential towers, residential terraces, a hotel, office tower and retail.

The 30,000sq m site with a built area of more than 18-hectares is located at 2109-2125 Dandenong Road on the corner of Princess Highway and Blackburn Road.

Contractor Multiplex commenced work on M-City in July 2018 with up to 1,100 workers on site during peak periods.

Designed by architects Buchan Group, the “mini-city” development is described as a new gateway to Melbourne’s south-east growth corridor.

The rise of 20 minute cities has come into focus in the wake of Covid-19, with the majority of cases confirmed in Melbourne.

Multiplex Victoria regional managing director Graham Cottam said an industry first was achieved in this build, with the utilisation of hollow-core and pre-cast structure to a greater extent than any other building project of this scale in Australia.

“We are delighted to complete one of the most significant new developments in Victoria,” Cottam said.

“M-City is a vibrant miniature city in itself delivering premium office, residential, retail and hotel accommodation.”

M-City’s residential precinct included 665 apartments across four buildings ranging from three to 12 levels high.

The towers had landscaped rooftop gardens with tennis courts, a swimming pool, spa, gym and outdoor eating facilities.

The 4.5-star international hotel with a bronze facade has 250 rooms across 10-levels, a restaurant, bar and conference facilities which would be operated by Park Royal.

In its commercial and retail precinct M-City has an eight-level office tower providing 14,000 square metres of A Grade space above a two-level retail podium.

The 30,450 square metre retail centre comprises 78 stores including Woolworths, K- Mart, Village cinema complex, a medical centre and a childcare centre with a two-level carpark providing 2,000 carspaces.

Schiavello Group has a range of diversified products and companies and has already completed a number of large-scale projects in the Melbourne region including the Prima Tower and Abode 318.

The developer also sold out the One Queensbridge project to Crown Resorts for $80 million late last year.
