Morrison called Australia and the United States’ ANZUS Treaty the “most important single achievement” of the Liberal Party in the government. The agreement was negotiated and signed by the Menzies government in 1951, officially establishing the Australia-US alliance.
In an exclusive interview to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Liberal Party, the Prime Minister said that the Liberal government’s important contribution to Australia is “safe, stable (and) prosperous. If you don’t have a strong economy and a strong budget, then you cannot pay for hospitals and “The school,” said 51-year-old Mr. Morrison, “If you don’t have a strong economy and a strong budget, then you can’t afford the defense forces and intelligence, security and law enforcement departments needed to protect Australians.”
Mr. Morrison described the Liberal Party as being for all Australians, not for vested interests, but as a supporter of conservative and liberal philosophy, but first and foremost a “common sense” and “pragmatic” party. He said that this is the key to his election success and long-term government governance. “When you lead a political party with such broad appeal and broad base, it is necessary… to know your position, not to avoid the edge, but to be vigorously in the mainstream of the party, which means that you can get the party’s comprehensive a wide range of contacts,” he said.
