A major new development in Melbourne will create 34,000 jobs, and 15,000 new residents will move into the new suburbs of the inner city of northwest Melbourne. The state government announced a detailed plan for the transformation of industrial land, which will be completed in 2050. The new jurisdiction called Arden will cover 50 hectares of land between Macaulay Rd, Dryburgh St and Moonee Ponds Creek. The state government and Melbourne have published their draft Arden area plan.

Thousands of jobs will be created in the new suburb centered on the subway tunnel project Arden Station. The new Arden Station will initiate the region’s transformation from an industrial zone to a prosperous new suburb on the edge of the CBD. The draft outlines plans to transform industrial land along Moonee Ponds Creek into a residential and commercial center, including new bicycles and transportation, to ensure that the area is better connected to the rest of the city. At the same time, Queensberry St and Fogarty St will be expanded to create a high street style boulevard.

Richard Wynne, director of planning, said that the job creation will greatly promote the city’s economic development. He said: ‘Arden is not only an exciting place to live and work, it will be the driving force of our economy, creating thousands of jobs in the short and long term.”
