According to the latest polls, both parties are now tied at 50 percent. Labor’s fortunes have changed as prime minister Morrison has mishandled his handling of drought and the recession. The government’s multi-billion dollar drought relief package failed to impress voters, according to Australian reports.

Labour, for its part, last week released a report into its defeat in May’s general election, but that has not stopped its core support from rising. Their support among voters rose by two points to 35%. The coalition’s core support fell by two percentage points to 40%.

In terms of personal support, prime minister Morrison was also the first choice. This time, Newspoll surveyed a nationwide sample of 1,682 voters. The poll was conducted Thursday through Saturday.
