Frydenberg and Mathias Cormann shared assumptions about Australia’s economic outlook, and also revealed that travel restrictions will be lifted from January 1 to June 30, 2021. “This will allow temporary and permanent immigrants to resume entry, but the overall level will be lower than normal.” At the same time, a two-week quarantine period will be implemented for all immigrants. Frydenberg said: “The current assumption is that opening up will gradually resume, and people need to be quarantined upon arrival, which also means that international students can resume entry.”
Regardless of whether the border can be reopened on that date, the economic update also predicts that if international travel restarts, flights will remain at pre-pandemic levels. Health Minister Greg Hunt said that from a health perspective, the border closure will be constantly reviewed.
