
Rex Patrick, a member of Centre Allianz, said that independent parliamentarians in Congress will continue to promote the establishment of an independent anti-corruption commission at the federal level.
Independent lawmakers gathered in the Capitol on Wednesday and called on the federal government to set up a state-level clean government.
They believe that the National Integrity Commission proposed by the coalition government will not have sufficient investigative power and is a toothless tiger.
However, Liberal Senator Eric Abetz expressed concern about this proposal.
He told the show host of skynews that he is worried that the ICAC will have too much power, above the law.
The ICAC’s investigation of a person may destroy the person’s career.
Independent MP Rex Patrick disagreed with Eric Abetz’s statement.
He said that we can enact relevant laws to limit the investigation power and defense of the Federal Independent Commission to prevent malicious investigations.
