Former NSW Governor David Hurley will be sworn in as the next Governor of Australia to succeed Sir Peter Cosgrove.

Mr. Hurley served as the NSW Governor from 2014 to the beginning of this year. But before he was in the army for more than 40 years, he also served as the Minister of Defense.

On Monday, he will take the oath at the Canberra ceremony and take over from Sir Peter, who served as the five-year governor.

Prime Minister Morrison chose Mr. Hurley last December.

In the Commonwealth countries, the Governor is appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister and represents the British royal family.
