Finance Minister Mathias Cormann’s ticket to Singapore for vacation was paid by a travel company controlled by the Liberal Party’s treasurer, Andrew Burnes, and within a few weeks of the company’s $1 billion contract from Commann’s division.   Helloworld is a publicly traded company, and Burnes is the company’s president. It uses the company’s “employee and family” account for Senator Cormann, his wife and two children booked a ticket. Helloworld’s records show that the company paid $2780.82 for the ticket booked in July 2017. The company announced in the next month that its subsidiary AOT won a three-year contract of 300 million yuan from the Ministry of Finance. A source from the Ministry of Finance said that the company had obtained the status of a preferred bidder before the ticket for Cormannn was booked.   Cormann and his family completed the trip in January 2018. He paid the ticket money after the media contacted Burnes and he personally asked about it. On Monday, Cormann said that he did not know that the ticket was booked through the company’s employees and family accounts, and that his credit card was not deducted. He has no idea how to arrange private travel within Helloword.   Helloworld is a company with a market capitalization of 713 million and its main competitor is the Flight Centre. Burnes and his wife hold 35% of the shares, and the second largest shareholder is Qantas.
