With more Australians recovering from the new crown every day than new infections, Australia ’s active cases fell below 500 for the first time. More than 6,500 Australians have recovered and 102 people have died since the outbreak began. There are currently 484 active cases in Australia. Reports of cured cases before April 5 were not consistent, but the last less than 500 confirmed cases in Australia were on March 17.

The main restrictions on community distance and movement were gradually implemented in the last two weeks of March. An epidemiologist, Professor Mary-Louise McLaws of UNSW, said that the last time we had less than 500 cases, the outbreak was preparing to rise in Australia. “After 14 days our number of cases increased to 5133.”

“This tells us how quickly the virus can spread within 2 weeks.” Professor McLaws said Australia was on the way to zero cases.
