Many city council fire regulations set deadlines for the removal of non-compliant exterior wall materials. Therefore, many owners’ corporations will levy special fees to cover the expenses of the related projects, or use financing to pay for the fees.
So far, although the Victorian government has pledged to invest 600 million yuan to replace the flammable outer layer of high-risk buildings, the federal and state governments have refused to provide any financial assistance to owners who cannot pay for the repair of the outer wall. Recently, the NSW government set up an exterior wall building material product safety team to investigate this issue.
The Owner’s Legal Person Network (OCN), which represents the owners, has called on the state government to provide long-term interest-free or low-interest loans to affected owners to pay for exterior wall renovation costs. Those owners who need to improve the structure of the building to the city council standard should receive a HomeBuilder subsidy of $25,000.
