Prime Minister Morrison’s speech at the United Nations early Thursday morning in Australia raised a strong defense of Australia’s progress in tackling climate change. This is the first time that Prime Minister Morrison delivered a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.
He rejected Australia’s claim that it is lagging behind in climate policy. He said that Australia is working hard to deal with climate change and we reject any contrary proposals. In the area of marine protection, Prime Minister Morrison called for an accelerated pace of protection of the global ocean. He urged the industry to create new business solutions to help the government deal with plastic pollution and recycling issues to protect the ocean from further plastic contamination. He said that protecting our oceans is also one of the most pressing environmental challenges in the world.
