One out of every 14 mortgages in the epidemic was delayed for six months. New data released by the Australian Banking Association (ABA) on Saturday showed that 429,000 home loans in the crisis have been delayed, with a total value of 153.5 billion Australian dollars.

This brings the total number of deferred payments on bank accounts to 703 thousand, with a total value of 211 billion. Anna Bligh, president of the Banking Association, said banks are prepared to support customers in a crisis and help the economy hit by the epidemic.

Banks have also hired an additional 1,500 employees and redeployed 2,200 current employees to first-line positions, including telephone customer service centers, to help record demand for help in the past few months.
